On the restrictor, one opening is larger than the other. Inside the restrictor the large opening tapers off toward the smaller opening.

I realy think you may have just had a bad heater core, try popping one in and see how it goes. Look at page 169 of the online catalog, it called a heater flow control valve and it stops heater core waterflow in ac/non ac cars when the heat is not selected.

Dec 03, 2010· on earlier cars before 1970 there is suppose to be a difference because of a restrictor used before the heater core to prevent a pressure build up inside the core which can cause the heatercore to actually blow up. so in that case with the hipo engines you needed to make sure the connection was correct. on 7173 is does not seem to mater.
