Feb 23, 2007· if you chuck the tungsten in a cordless drill it makes the grinding much quicker. doesn't really matter what kind of stone so long as it doesn't get contaminated used to grind anything other than tungsten. i've even turned an angle grinder on its back and used that, don't recommend it .

Jul 19, 2006· I recommend just a regular grinding wheel (6080 grit.) for most sharpening. Point the electrode against the direction of the wheel and sping the electrode with your fingers. Do it slow enough so as not to create a spiral in the stirations left from the stone.

Welders: tool for grinding welds in tight areas? I've a need to grind down some welds in fairly tight spaces. I've tried a Dremel, but it doesn't seem to have the 'oomph' I need. ... The stones disintgrate and find their way under saftey glasses and in corners. Don't know what that latest project is but I'll guess it will turn out sweet.

Which grinding stone for Tungsten sharpening WeldingWeb
Nov 25, 2009· I'm continuing to add to my little workshop, to facilitate using my new TIG welder, I bought a new bench grinder (the usual type with a stone on each end of the shaft). I will use one end for Tungsten sharpening, given my level of skill it'll probably get a good workout for a while. I am not sure what the best grinding stone is for Tungsten sharpening, any advice would be appreciated.

TIG Tungsten Grinding It does depend on how your grinding it, a stone with a fine grit would be better, but try to avoid grinding it with the side of the tungsten towards the stone as the grind marks will cause the arc to be more unstable and sort of spiral off the tungsten where as if it's straight likes with the tungsten front on to the wheel it will have a more stable and controllable cone

My primary function during my time in service became welding. I sure hope I recall this correctly, but I'm sure that we were taught not to grind aluminum on a stone type grinding wheel. We were taught that a nonferrous metal would clog a wheel and become explosive.
